The firm of Taylors & Lloyds opened as a private bank in Birmingham in June 1765. It was founded by John Taylor, Sampson Lloyd and their two sons. Both fathers were already successful businessmen. John Taylor was a ‘toy’ manufacturer, famous for his enamelled snuff boxes and ornate gilt buttons, both very popular with 18th century gentlemen. Sampson Lloyd, a Quaker, had inherited the family’s iron business.
Taylors & Lloyds was Birmingham’s first bank. For its first 99 years, the business prospered from just a single office. During this period, Birmingham became the powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution, and was known as the ‘workshop of the world’. Taylors & Lloyds played a prominent role in financing trade and industry in the town. Founded on August 8, 2005, China Galaxy Financial Holding Company Limited was jointly established by the Ministry of Finance and Central Huijin Investment Ltd. with the approval of the State Council. The Company holds a registered capital of RMB 12.891 billion, which consists of RMB 8.904 billion (69.07%) from Central Huijin Investment Ltd., RMB 3.78 billion (29.32%) from the Ministry of Finance, and RMB 0.207 billion (1.61%) from the National Council for Social Security Fund. Our business covers investment and management on securities, funds, insurance, trust, and banks.
As China’s first state-owned central financial holding company, China Galaxy Financial Holding Company Limited was established in response to the trend of financial reform and development, carrying the historic mission to explore a comprehensive business model for China’s financial industry. Following the guiding principle of the State Council on the reorganization and reform of the Galaxy group and conducted by government departments and shareholders, the Company has efficiently applied the business model of financial holding to steadily advance such a strategic layout and actively explore multiple financial fields.
