When you are choosing a translator, be sure that he or she truly wants to deliver professional quality work and is willing to communicate with you promptly about your project. I have a strong work ethic and I am committed to delivering professional and timely translations. I never hesitate to ask questions or clarify instructions immediately to ensure that I do the project the way you want it done. I love the Chinese language and I also enjoy writing and editing in English, so I am definitely in the right field!
I do freelance translation from Chinese (simplified and traditional) into US English. I started translating and writing technical reports for the Department of Defense in 2001, and then translated as a federal contractor. In November 2006, I started working as a freelance translator and editor and fell in love with being able to work from home, having more flexibility and-- still being able to do the translation work I love!
After having studied Chinese in the United States for about eight years, I decided to move to China and continue my formal study of Chinese at Dalian University of Technology in Liaoning Province (Northeast China). I traveled and studied in China for about six months (July 2006-January 2007). I enjoyed the variety of sites in China, from the skyscrapers of Shanghai, the gardens in Suzhou, the Gugong in Beijing, the pandas in Sichuan, the tea plantations in Wuyishan, the terracotta warriors in Xi'an, the ice festival in Harbin and the beautiful Oceanside Northeast city of Dalian- just to name a few.
From July to August 2008, I went back to China and had the privilege of seeing the Olympics in person! I stayed and traveled with Chinese friends, visiting new and exotic places and returning to old favorites from the past.
Continuing education is important to me, so I have taken several graduate-level college courses in Chinese translation and in liberal studies and I also occasionally take writing classes for fun. I earned my B.A. in History in 2004.
I accept Chinese translation and Chinese back-translation projects on a part-time basis. Market research is my translation specialty but I have translation experience in a wide variety of fields, including the IT, consumer electronics, and the general medical, and pharmaceutical fields. I also do professional English editing for non-native English speakers.
I take the confidentiality of my clients very seriously so I don't post samples of projects I have done online, but I volunteer for a great news website called Watching America. Please feel free to take a look at some of my translation work there and check out the rest of the site too!
