Any good courses out there, e.g., CD-based, with a hefty dose of the spoken language, not someone constantly babbling on in English, as was often the case with the Teach Yourself books/tapes?

Useful link May 16, 2007

O si yo ("hello" in Cherokee)

Here are a link that may be useful:

http://www.hanksville.org/NAresources/indices/NAlanguage.html

Scroll down to "Cherokee" (about a third down the page).
There are both online resources and info on books/cassettes etc.

Mighty Sequoia! May 16, 2007

Okay, many thanks. I'll look into this, when I have a moment's time (am straddling German and Finnish translations at the moment).

I actually live on a street called Sequoia lane.

Heard the following on a local radio show:
Cherokee Choir & Cherokee National Youth Choir Orphan Child Smithsonian Folkways SFWCD 40480, wihch got me interested.

A soft-spoken language, in this regard not wholly unlike Danish, IMO.

may have an answer on Friday ... May 16, 2007

Funny you should ask! I am working with a professor of Indian studies who is a Cherokee, and very active in tribal life. When we talk on Friday morning, I'll ask him if he can recommend something for you...

Streaming audio, where to find? Jul 5, 2007

I had someone contact me from the Cherokee nation in OKlahoma saying that the "address of the nation," which was in streaming audio was as I suspected a dead link. In fact all Cherokee audio links turn up dead. Have you or anyone else come across a live link where you can listen to spoken Cherokee.

Tia,
YR
