During medival times the Turkish armies that invaded India also had strong Uzbek contingents and many of these soldiers settled in India and got Indianized over time. Urdu has drawn liberally from the languages spoken by the invaders which include Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Uzbek and Pashto. About 30% of the vocabulary of Urdu consists of these foreign words.
