I apologize beforehand if this is the wrong section of the forum to ask this but I need some pointers. I might be starting off as a Project Manager. The current PM is retiring and I'll be going through a trial period (between 2-3 months) and then I'll be on my own.

I don't know what other factors, than the workflow, the size of the agency, the working hours and whatnot. I'd be very grateful if you could tell me how much a PM's salary could be, part time and full time. I tried sea

Thanks in advance.

Hi Oscar,

I don't think anyone will be able to provide meaningful information unless you specify in which country you would be working as a project manager. Obviously, tax rates will vary in different countries and salaries may be higher in metropolitan areas than in rural areas, for instance.

Thanks to both of you for your answer.

@Daniel, I would be working in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Need more information Feb 4, 2012

It sounds like it is not just we who need more information, but also you. If you are not sure of the workflow, potential responsibilities, etc, you have some good questions to ask the agency. Have you been looking to move into Project Management specifically or is this a random opportunity? That would weigh heavily into my decision of what salary would be worth it to change from being a freelancer to being an employee.

Try google Feb 4, 2012

Why don't you try and google "translation project manager". I had go and found quite a few posts available in the UK from Junior to Senior GBP 17-35,000

I was just asking what factors I should take into account as I didn't want to seem unprepared for the job and what it entails, though I am. I will ask for more details of the job and I will let you know. This is a random opportunity that came up some days ago. I was working as a freelancer.

Thanks to you and NR_Stedman.

Mind you! That seems rather like a yearly salary.

BTW, there is no reason to claim less than you are getting now as a freelancer. By rule of thumb, I would suggest this simple algorithm:

1) calculate how much you are earning now as a month average
2) ask twice as much

Same as Alexander, half of that or twice as much.
In my life I encountered several kinds of PMs: those who just leaved secretary school without experience whatsoever and heads of translations departments. = Somewhere between the salary of a junior secretary and that of a manager, in your country.

Why not? Feb 6, 2012

Why not?

The task is different. Working hours is different. The amount of experience is different. It is highly possible that as junior PM you cannot earn as much as a freelancer.
