I always send my friends and customers greeting cards (paper cards, not e-cards) for the holidays. I believe that sending Christmas cards is a great way to strengthen on-line friendships and business relationships. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I've always loved receiving greeting cards: opening the mailbox and finding an envelope is so much nicer than receiving an e-mail saying "XX has sent you a card". Happy 2009, my friends and fellow translators! Laurean... See more I always send my friends and customers greeting cards (paper cards, not e-cards) for the holidays. Not as such, but New Year wishes had (at least once) the effect of a reminder on a customer who had really 'forgotten' to pay!

The question is not "Have u included a reminder with the greetings?". It is about the intention that the greetings have the effect of a reminder on a customer who had really 'forgotten' to pay! I don't send out random holiday greetings (cards, etc.) but if I have reason to e-mail clients for business at this time of year, I'll wish them happy new year.

It's certainly not appropriate and not at all necessary. Communication of this type can certainly wait an extra day or two. HAPPY NEW YEAR! | | | wonita (X) 中国大陆 Local time: 23:53

Moreover, I think the question in itself is improper - we are intelligent, educated people. If I would like to send somebody my best wishes for whatever reason, I would never mix it with some kind of trouble. If the client does not pay, I am mad, upset, and, if there is no explanation, I think the client does not respect me, my company, my colleagues, our work and invested time and efforts. In this case there is no reason to send him/her any greetings... As in the old Hungarian saying, how did come the boots on the table???[Módosítva: 2008-12-30 20:30 GMT]

how did the boots get on the table? I kind of agree. Happy new year- you owe me money! I'd rather do it in a business context. If someone is lagging, I'll just send an email or paypal reminder.
I think such greetings would possibly hurt my clients and in turn myself. There must be a better way to remind clients.
There was a hilarious case of some Housing Association sending Christmas cards to their clients which read: "Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way, please make sure you pay your rent, so in your home you'll stay. We want you to enjoy the festive period, but even more than this we want you to continue to enjoy your home, please make sure payments are kept up to date." I'd say that was really uncool of them...
