One of the benefits of CAT. The completed translation is backed up on my email provider's server when I send it to the client.

I have a copy of my work folder in a private Dropbox account so it backs up automatically every time I save. I also work across a Mac and a virtual Windows environment so it means I can keep these synced at all times.

This poll might be repeated regularly but it has served its purpose - I have now finally set up an automatic online backup rather than a manual stick-based one

Er, sort of regularly, which is basically when I remember to do so.... and I haven't backed up for about a week now, so thanks for the reminder!

If at least one person begins to safeguard their work as a result of each time the question is asked, hooray!

A little tongue-in-cheek question for discussion: is it "to back up" or "to backup"? If it is the latter, can the past tense be "backupped"? And is it "to log in" or "to login". Or is it "to log on"? Loginned? Logonned?

It is obviously worth backing up translation memories as these are ongoing tools. However there does not seem to be much point in keeping copies of old translated texts, particularly as, in theory, you could reproduce them all from your TMs. Sometimes I imagine showing them to my grandchildren, but beyond that there isn't really any use for them.

I would say (without any research) that login and backup are nouns (ie "the login procedure", "save a file as backup") and that the verbs would be to log in and to back up (with past tense "logged in" and "backed up") I do like logonned, however!

I used to back-up my files on an external hard drive about every 2 weeks...until my main computer's hard drive "smoked itself up" last month. Although most of the data could be saved, some important files were missing, e. g. a couple of TMs. Now I back everything up at the end of the work day (whenever that might be ) Better safe than frantic.
