Yes! Someone in San Juan, Puerto Rico, held a potluck powwow in their home. It was so great to meet other translators, talk shop, and put faces on some of the names we'd seen on ProZ.com.
That was many years ago, and I had forgotten about them. Has the "Powwows" tab always been up there at top left? I'm going to start checking it!
We could also plan virtual powwows. Not as much fun without shared refreshments, but a lot easier to organize!

I attended and organized many, many powwows back when face-to-face meetings seemed to be important to ProZ. I also attended multiple conferences in different countries and even organized a couple.
Sadly, ProZ seems to have stopped caring about in-person activities and now focuses exclusively on online training, meetups, etc. And so much AI content... I gave this new approach a try, but will not be renewing my membership. I no longer find any value here.

Of course, this is not only because of the lack of powwows or conferences. Instead, just by checking out the daily polls I can tell that participation has plummeted, which is why I believe many "old timers" must feel the same way. I guess that most new/newer members are here just to bid on increasingly awful job postings. ▲ Collapse | | | Future in person powwows | Jan 30 |
