Not really. The IM function is laughably rudimentary. There is no history of your conversation with someone else. Send a message and get a reply, and both are lost in the ether. You can't see the thread of the conversation.

这里的thread的概念应该是最先来自“线程”，但是自从BBS出现了以"thread"排列的方式，将所有同属一个主题的帖子归类于同一个“thread”，其实就是现在所谓的“topic”即“主题”。

conversation应该是对话。
