Hello! I am looking for some books about pragmatic theories of translation. My main objective of doing this research is that I want to get to know all translation theories based on pragmatics. By this reason, I've been currently searching for papers, articles, academic publishings, books (old or contemporary released, both is fine) or any other similar findings about pragmatics in translation field I can get. By this reason, I've been currently searching for papers, articles, academic publishings, books (old or contemporary released, both is fine) or any other similar findings about pragmatics in translation field I can get. Can anybody help me surface such books from wherever they are? Even a single passage included in the book giving information about pragmatics of translation will do good. I am just trying to collect as many findings as I can get. I would much appreciate it if you could list me some names so I can narrow the scope of my endless searching for the books which took me one month at least and made me end up finding still nothing. Thank you very much once again. ▲ Collapse | | | In detective stories, it is called a CLUE | Feb 26, 2016 |

I have no idea of what a pragmatic theory of translation is, but then I have only been translating full-time for 35 years. And you have found nothing. Agreed, that is two pieces of data only. The torrent version of Keith Brown's "Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics (2005)" (which is missing quite a few pages) has 12 000 pages, and "pragmatics" is mentioned on 1100 of them. | | | Karen Stokes 英国 Local time: 19:30 正式会员 (自2003) French法语译成English英语 Hatim and Munday | Feb 27, 2016 |
I just had a quick look at Translation An Advanced Resource Book by Basil Hatim and Jeremy Munday (2004) published by Routledge, which lists references to pragmatics and context / culture / decision-making / equivalence / machine translation / relevance / text type / textual salience and refers to a couple of chapters/articles by Werner Koller: - the first one is in German but apparently there's an English translation (Equivalence in Translation Theory) in Chesterman A. Wow. Having no idea initially what "pragmatic theories of translation" might be either, I clicked on the last link there, just out of curiosity, and found this: "Pragmatics is defined as the science of the relations between signs and sign-users. It deals with problems such as the uses or functions of language, as, for example, when we classify the uses of language into cognitive, practical and esthetic"... And I'm ashamed to say it's lost me already... What a rubbish, third-rate useless duffer of a translator I must be, with such galloping ignorance of the rudimentaries. Just wondering how the pragmatic theory renders "oy vé" in practice... | | | Works cited in an article by Basil Hatim | Feb 27, 2016 |
Mona Baker's Routledge Encyclopedia of Translation Studies (2nd Ed.) contains an article on pragmatic theories by Basil Hatim, and the works cited in it might be a good set of information. If you have access to the Encyclopedia, I would suggest that you check those references. | | | 话题中的页数: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Recommend me some books about pragmatic theories of translation?
